The EK Stunt Cycle was the greatest toy ever made! I have told my wife so many stories about what I could do with it when I was a kid. On 12/18/05 it was my 43rd birthday and she found me a brand new EK Stunt Cycle set. I opened the box and it brought back so many great memories. I took it out and played with it for hours, laughing like I did back 30+ years ago. I wish that they would bring back more of the great EK toys like I once had. On e-bay I have purchased the scrable van and a few other things, but they go for a huge price. Thank you Evel for some of the greatest memories from my childhood!

This was definately one of my favorites along with Ricochet Racers, and Smash Up Derby. I too had the RV and spent hours and hours in my driveway jumping practically anything I could find. I remember trying to take such good care of it, cleaning it at the end of the day. It would start losing distance when the metal pins on the back wheel and the slots on the launcher would wear down from overuse. It wouldn't lock in place very well and when it got real bad, the first little bump while winding would send it trickling down the front of the launcher.

Man,those were cool toys. AH,TO BE YOUNG AGAIN!

It's important that you all know that the remake by Back-to-Basics toys IS NOT REMOTELY like the original. It looks like it for sure, but it goes 4 feet and then falls over -- no exaggeration. The gyro isn't as strong or something. I am pissed to say the least because I got it for my nephew for Christmas.

oh man - I just wanted to kill this guy! I mean like I had marveled over the actual classic footage of the Caesar's Palace crash on TV and was always trying to see if I could duplicate the event with this toy. I remember distinguishly the centrifugal/gyroscopic force after you ripped that t-handle thing upwards (weren't there were other toys like this around the same time?). I knew after the first crank that this toy meant business! I think I kept Evil's little plastic helmet for years afterwards. Eventually this toy led to some serious ramp jumping on the sidewalk in front of my house on my banana seat schwinn - resulting in real bruises.

I got the stunt cycle for Christmas along with the "EK TransVan". I think I was in third, maybe fourth grade. It was one of the best toys I ever had. I was an EK fan before I ever actually got the toy, and when I opened that package, oh man, heaven. My buddies two houses down were the same age and we build stuff with Lincoln Logs and my Tonka Trucks for him to jump over. I had forgotten about the concrete scraped knuckles until reading the other posts! What great toys we had back then.

I never been so happy to get a toy for Christmas. Unfortunately, I only used it 3 or 4 times. My older brother had to try it out and smashed it in to the basement wall.

I love this toy. My brother and i used to make Evil jump off my grandmother's front porch, that's until the front fork spring broke and we couldn't use it anymore. That was a very sad day. After the second bike went south we kind of gave up. To bad they didn't fix that problem, but then my knukles would be deformed by now.

Very cool. I remember playing with this in about the 4th grade. We had a dining room that had steps down into a formal living room. I'd go way back into the kitchen, and send EK flying over those steps.

I had this figure, and did place him in many perilous situations performing many dangerous stunts. He was very much the rubber man, with no real joints to speak of, except for the turning head, and the feet for some reason, which could actually be detached.

The motorcycle was one of those propelled by a plastic strip run through a series of little teeth, causing the rear tire to spin, and thus launch it over (and through) so many obstacles.

I originally saw this toy when I was a 5 year old in 1975. I said to my mum that I wanted it for Xmas, but being fairly hard-up at the time, she just laughed and said "Ask your rich Uncle Tom". (She was being sarcastic)

Anyway, like the naive 5 year old, the next time I saw my Uncle Tom (who'd spent his life working in Australia and Canada, and was worth quite a bit), sure enough I piped up "Uncle Tom My mum says I've to ask you to buy me the Evel Knievel stunt cycle". My poor mum was mortified.

2 weeks later, at my Gran's house, my Uncle appears and tells me there's something in the back of his car for me...

The Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle!

I was delighted. But that particular day, my Uncle, Dad and Grandad played with it more than I did. I think I had it for another 3 or 4 years before it eventually disintegrated.

Best toy I ever had.

It is funny how a fairly simple toy can have such an entertaining value. A group of us pulled out an old evel Knieval Stunt cycle I had sitting in a closet and had a blast with it. It still works after 30 years. I thought it was cool to see the it featured on That 70's show.

I had an Evel Knievel stunt cycle as a young boy and had hours of excitement. Building various ramps and tracks for the stunt cycle, allowed me to live vicariously through Evel's adventures. I have look all over the internet trying to find one for my boys. Do you have any ideas?

I found this site after searching for photos of Evil.I grew up in Huntington Beach CA and my brother & I both had the Evil Knievel Stunt Cycle. We would stack red bricks up in the street & put a piece of plywood on them as a ramp. We would increase the number of bricks each jump trying to out jump each other. When we reached 13 bricks my brothers Evil went down hard and had to be transported into the garage for some emergency life saving glue. My brothers Evil jumping days ended when he wound up the stunt cycle & put the rear wheel in our sisters hair.

Man, I wore that Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle out! A neighbor down the street had a hill on the side of their front yard. Evel could get about 6 feet of air off of that hill! Well, maybe I had a vivid imagination, who knows. I also got my very first 110 camera around the same time, so I was able to pose Evel, and his bike for some pics......which I still have BTW!

I bought the recent reissue Evel Stunt Cycle set for my 8 year-old son Alex. That thing was a waste of money. It'll only go a couple of feet before it falls over. One of these days I'll find a real vintage Stunt Cycle set, and show Alex what it was all about!

I was one of the toy shop guys at Hasbro back in the early 70's and I remember working on this toy. It was not uncommon for one of us (modelmakers) to be in charge of a project from start to end. However, sometimes the front office would request additional copies beyond what was needed to go to tooling. At times like that several of us might be asked to take parts to sand out, prime up and prepare for painting. Other toys I worked on: GI Joe Training Tower: I made the first and two additional from scratch using stirene plastic and what they called 102 glue. This was for the full sized GI Joe.

Weeble People swimming pool from scratch (with slide). This was when there were three sizes of weebles, Dad, Mom, and child weeble. I think it went to two sizes later due to the smaller weeble being small enough to swallow. Then Dad and Mom were the larger and the child took the size of the previous mom weeble.

Digger Dawg ( assist )

Hot Wheels: We made lots of these but I was on assist for the final preps on them.

I was one of the two guys chosen to drive the toys down to New York at the toy show one year.. I think 1971 or 72.

This is a classic toy! This is by far most durable toy of my childhood...next to my hotwheels. He was an icon for me. I remember getting the little diecast vehicles too. My favorite memories of the set was plain and simple just running him into everything...especially the kitchen table chairs. After he would complete the jump he couldn't put the breaks on fast enough. Got a set coming at the end of october from Backtothebasics.com Looking forward to seeing how it works. I hope it has a clear front tire like the original.

My Knievel stunt cycle memory…

If I recall correctly my cycle came with a device to rev it up that had a hand crank on the side. Well after a while I got tired of all that cranking and in my quest for more speed I turned to a more high tech method of cranking. You see my parents were hippie’s that did silversmith work, beading, leatherwork etc… so we had several buffer’s or grinders in the home. So one fine day I fired up the buffer and held the stunt cycle ‘s tire to it… until I thought it would explode…I then set that little guy on the kitchen floor and proceeded to watch it bounce off of every wall in our small home… at least twice… it was so cool…

That’s all-

This was one cool friggin' toy. Why doesn't hasbro, mattel or kenner come out with this thing again. Shoot, it was cool that it was Evel Knievel, but it doesn't have to be him. Crap, winding this thing up and letting it rip over jumps was the best. I haven't found a toy this fun in a long time. Another great toy was the old SSP w/ the rip cords. and Smash Up Derby. I bought a knock off version, but it didn't have the same mfg. Not as heavy, not as good. The Stunt Cycle rocked!

I had posted something on here in August (scroll down) saying that I had an unopened Stunt Cycle for sale on Ebay - Guess what it sold for... $455.00 plus shipping! Can you believe that!!! I had mailed it out the day that we evacuated from Hurricane Katrina. When we came back, my father's house was 100 percent destroyed. Good thing that I listed it when I did; other wise it too would have been lost. I guess I'll never know what other good things and retro toys were up there.

This is so devestating... Go to NOLA.com to see pictures. My dad's house is even in there under (A)"Your Photos" (B)"See Galleries" (C)"Your Photos" (D) "What's left of home". I believe his pictures are listed as numbers 7 - 12.

His area is so destroyed. We need to do so much work; Hey, if anyone is looking to donate some time and work - we sure could use it! Email me.

I remember getting my Evil Knieval stunt cycle for Christmas in 1975 if my memory is correct. Both my brother and me got one and would play for hours making Evil do various tricks and stunts. One of our favorites was getting our Hot Wheels track out with the loop and making evil go through the loop and then hit the ramp. We spent weeks thinking and designing up ways to make Evil do longer jumps and higher air. We would go outside and have contest with other kids to see who could jump the farthest. It seemed like nothing could stop the stunt cycle. This was probably one of the toughest toys that we ever had. We simply loved our stunt cycles.

I'm 42 years old and this is one of the only toys I remember from my childhood. For Christmas I got the stunt cycle from my parents and the van from my grandma. I was so excited i was shaking. I lived in a small house so i used to send Evel down the hall. With the ramp set up on the back of the van he could do a full sommersault then land and speed away. After a short while the spring in the front forks broke so I wrapped an elastic around the handle bars and connected it to the body of the bike so I could still use it. I also wrapped a band aid around the small wheel of the spinning thing ramp as after a while the lower part of my thumb would be numb with pain from squeezing it so hard. I thought the band aid would act like a cushion!

I used to rev up Evel on his cycle and send him straight up the slide at the local playground. That was always a massive jump that ended with Evel bouncing off over the handlebars just like he did in reality at the London jump. Hoo Haa! I had a chance to meet Evel in 1997 at an event at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He signed my Evel K. lunchbox on the Snake River Skycycle side, "To Corbin, Happy Landings, Evel Knievel '97". He is a totally magnanimous individual and a true American legend.

I grew in an urban neighborhood on the Northwest side of Chicago. On the first outdoor run of my new Evel Knievel Stunt cycle I over-revved the flywheel. The cycle took off fast and flew gracefully off the curb before running under the tire of a large 1960's Ford sedan.

In that moment I learned that Evel could survive the Snake River Canyon but not Mason Avenue.

Guess what I just found in my father's attic... Yep, a BRAND NEW, NEVER OPENED Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle!!! My mother would buy toys and stash them away in case we were invited to a birthday party on a short notice and she wouldn't have to rush out to the store and buy something.

My brother told me that she recently gave away a GI Joe doll (like a Barbie doll) with a little lever on the back of his head that made his eyes move. I remember my brother's just like this - mainly his hair - it was cut like a crew cut and it tickeled!!

That will be cool if I find more of these "vintage" toys up there in the attic; One day I'll have to look, but it's sooooo hot up there - maybe this fall.

If you guys have any idea where I can list this Evel Knievel thing, please let me know.

Wow, talk about a trip down memory lane! I remember getting the cycle for my 10th birthday in 1975, if memory serves me well. The bottom of the couch in our enclosed porch was just the perfect height to catch Evel's chin and, well, you can figure the rest! LOL!

Seriously, I'll be 40 next month and this site has brought back some of the best memories from my childhood 30 years ago.

Seeing the cycle, Evel figure and, especially the box, brought back the exact same feeling I had as a kid when I opened my present. I wish my Mom was still here so I could give tell her thanks all over again for one of the coolest presents that I ever got.

I got my Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle for Christmas when I was 5yo. I couldn’t put it down! I jumped that thing off of anything I could. I still remember the sound of the bike revving up as I cranked the handle as fast as I could. I would make ramps out books and vinyl records. It didn’t take long before I realized I could get bike revved up and hold it in my little sisters hair. It got tangled so bad, my mother had to cut it out of her hair.

Ok, I was driving (underage) and had a motorcycle (hidden from my parents) when my aunt and uncle gave me a EK stunt cycle. First thing I did was scrap all the hide off my knuckles winding it up, as a teenager no less. Mom thought I had really injured myself playing with it. However, I was racing dirt bikes at the time, without telling my parents, and took the hide off my elbows and knuckles. I soon quit dirt bikes and went to cars, never telling my mom and dad until I won once at a dirt track and my picture with a short story was in the newspaper. After racing for a number of years, I started flying as a bush pilot in Alaska, until age 46. Thanks Evel for giving me the courage to do more than I ever thought I could do.

PS. I found my Evel stunt cycle in my moms garage, Almost 50 and I just tore the hide off my knuckles again... and it still makes that cool sound..!!!!

All I can say is that this toy meant as much to me as anything in the 70's and because of evil Knievel and the excitement he generated I never could agree with my sister that our childhood was troubled. This toy made me happy in ways I could never explain. Louie my big brother made me ramps to jump over my Tonka trucks (the steel ones)and I also had the cycle with the red jets in the back that would spark when you put this little black thing inside. I ruined one cycle due to christmas tinsel build up in the rear wheel well but I cant complain I loved anything to do with Evil and this toy was just incredible. Besides I was too fat for a big wheel!

I just watched a biography on the History Channel about Evil Kneivel and they had this toy. I loved that guy in the 70's. My parents bought me this Stunt Cycle to go along with my Evil Kneivel Rocket electric toothbrush. Unfortunatly for the electric toothbrush, my neighbor friends and I lit it on fire trying to get it to fly.

Loved the Stunt Cycle. Best toy in the world. Wasn't their a black chopper version of this called the Marauder?

One of my earliest memories is being about 6 or 7 and in the Hospital after having my Tonsils out. My Father was there when I woke up and presented me with the only thing better than ice cream.....the stunt cycle. As soon as I was able I let that bad boy rip all up and down the halls of the Hospital!

I wish I still had mone...I cut knobbies into the tyres which didn't really work then Evil's head fell of which was kind of spooky. He always had a funny rubber smell which, some 30 years later, seems to drift back to me when I drink too much.

My older sister got a new encyclopedia set for her birthday and I got the Evil Knievel Stunt Cycle for mine. So I put those books to good use by creating a ramp-to-ramp jump at he end of our long, wood-floored hallway. Then wound that baby as fast as it could go and let it rip. She did'nt mind me using the books too much , but she didn't like the fact that I used her Barbies as props to jump over. Great toy. One of my all time favorites.

Okay. I have to say that this was one of my favorite all-time toys as a kid. Part of me regrets the day that I decided to launch dear old Knievel into the flames of a 50-gallon burn barrel at my uncle's ranch. And part of me doesn't.

In '74 or '75, I got my Evil stunt cycle and loved it...I would crank it up and let him fly! He jumped off the couch, bed, my school books, and just about anything else I could think of...then one day my sister was laying on the floor watching tv, and wouldn't move!!! So I guess that meant Evil would have his greatest challenge and have to jump my sister's fat head! Faster and faster I cranked the handle, finally it was time...bang I released Evil, up my sister's back he went, straight into her head...my mother had to cut her hair in order to get Evil's bike out and that was the end of my Evil Knevil days.

Man this toy was a piece of junk. Evel's limbs were so wirey that he wouldn't sit square on the bike. This made it unbalanced & it would just fall over. And that gyro thing that you cranked to accelerate the bike - the wheels inside mine stripped & broke after just a few uses. Cool concept though. Hindsight is 20/20 but I really wish I had kept all my old toys! But I still have my Star Trek Enterprise complete with spinning transporter! I'm hoping to retire off of that thing!

Evil and I go back many years and many fond memories. I got my first Evil for X-mas 73 or 74.I played the hell out of that Evil, loved it. then I got the Evil chopper stunt bike, it never handled like the original stunt bike though. I can only imagine what the chopper would be worth now. Then I got the Evil "snake river rocket" which actually launched from the original gyros. I still have that one. I loved all my Evil toys, for he was my "Hero". Of all the the old toys I still own, Evil was the one I still wish I had. My older brother gave all my three Evil bikes and figures away. Thirty years later I still haven't forgave him.

I can remember getting one of these for X-Mas around 1976.I was 4 years old and this toy was my favorite. My friend lived next door to me.There was about 10 feet between his house and mine.We would set this ramp up on the edge of my roof.We would then get to the top of the house and launch them down the the room towrds the ramp and try to jump across to his house. We did this for about 2 days before my dad caught up up there..lol Dont think we ever made the jump!Ideal did make this toy to be very tuff!I just bought one myself off of ebay, cant wait to get it!There is also one put out in the name of AMA SX/MX Champion Ricky Carmichael.

I had this toy and once ran it into our poor dog Spot. The wheel got wrapped up in his fur and mom had to cut it loose. Later, Spot chewed his head off for a little payback. I then had the Headless Daredevil. Sure would enjoy revving one of these up today at work and running it through the cubicles.

I have to agree with all that has been written. I remember jumping just about everything in my house. The crucial jump came when I tried the "CANYON" jump. Needless to say I didn't make my jump. I landed right smack dab in the dogs water dish.

What a corker of a toy this baby is!when i was a kid me and some of my mates had one of these each, and boy oh boy did we test out the strength of this toy it was nearly indestructable, across rivers, ravines, gorges, well it felt like that when you were 10 years old!The only weak points were the foot pegs and bike stand.I recently bought one off that auction site everybody seems to buy on and sell at these days, and it really made me chuckle the memories came flooding back! Then i made a discovery an american company called "playing mantis" released a re-issue of this very same toy about 5 years ago,it is more or less virtually the same as the 1970's toy,i bought one and set it up then had it going on a saturday afternoon outside my house, within 5 minutes one of my neighours was out on his knees on the street thinking of set ups, jumps, and tricks we could do,two 40 year old guys acting like little kids again, sad but great fun.So if you want to re-create those childhood memories again, check out the playing mantis evel knievel stunt bike, you can get one for about $80.00(thats what i paid) on ebay, and put your original boxed one safe in the display cabinet proudly on display (after you have got on from ebay also!)then stand back and salute the heroes at ideal for creating this masterpiece of a toy,and don't forget the man himself Mr Knievel one of the craziest, best showman america ever gave us brits and the rest of the world!THE original and never beaten "king of stuntmen"RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! i can hear those gyro's now all over the world revving up those harley's!

This was the best toy EVER, I wish Ideal toys would reissue it, they would make tons of money from it. I know in the early 80's There was a version that came out that looked like the Evel Knievel box, but it was called "Team America" I think this is when Ideal toy company terminated Evels contract. Elvis Presley and Evel Knievel are my two BIGGEST HEROS EVER!!!! LONG LIVE THE TWO KINGS!!!!

I think every kid on the block had one of these things. If you were not into Evel Knievel growin up there was something wrong with you. He is one of my heroes and always will be. The lunch box was cool too, remember those??? Some of my friends and I used to ride our bikes and pretend we were Evel Knievel. This toy would give us inspiration on the same ramp we were about to jump with our bikes. I think Evel, the toy version, survived much better than I did one day. I got all kinds of speed and i though this is gonna be a great jump. WRONG!!! I made the ramp and pulled back a bit harder than I should and taco'd the rear wheel on the landing and almost took out my back. I did bruise my backside bigtime. OUCH!!! Evel was and still is the man!!!

And I thought I was the biggest fan with the most stories about the bravest man to ever live. When I discovered this site, I absolutely tripped out. I actually owned about 70% of all of the toys on the site. It's been so long since i've even seen these toys...i'm 39 now so do the math. My name is Tim and right now I live in San Diego. I was born in San Diego, raised in Amarillo,Tx. and returned to San Diego around the age of 15. I call myself "The Surfin'Cowboy". Anyways.......I owned the whole EVEL KNIEVAL package. Probably around the age of 10 to 12 years old. One of those years- when Evel did the Snake River Jump, all of the adults in my family decided they wanted to go on vacation together and decided to go to JAMAICA. Then they all decided to meet in Dallas, over a day or two and leave from there. So, on the first morning there we all woke up, took our showers and continued to get ready for the day. While I was brushing my hair in the mirror of the bathroom, my GrandFather, standing over by the window, looking at the parking lot, says to me "Timmy, who's that guy that jumps motorcycles over cars"? So I turn, and say "EVEL KNIEVAL"? And he says " I think he's here". I ran over to the window and sure as heck, there he was, Diesal, Trailer, Matching Car, Enterage, the whole bit. I immediately ask 'if we can go down'? They say yes and we go. We get to the lobby and go straight to his diesal outside. Of course, I am going out of my mind, wishing anyone I ever knew was here right now, to see 'ME and EVEL KNIEVALS DIESAL'. And there he was, the man, the myth, with the Press going crazy. Then of course, right away, my parents want to go back to the lobby...and to keep from getting my mouth slapped, I just kept my mouth shut. So, we sat there waiting for our name to be called for breakfast about 20 minutes and in he walked, in all of his glory, surrounded by everyone he knew, the press, and any adult staying in the hotel, BIG TO-DO. And off he went to the elevators. Oh-yes while we were outside, I had noticed an advertisement painted on the truck that I was already aware of, saying that 2 weeks later was the 'SNAKE RIVER CANYON ROCKET JUMP'. Which I watched with great disappointment along with the rest of the U.S........SAD!

I used to have so much fun with Evil and his bike. I would make plywood ramps in the hallway of our house and then rev him up and watch the intersting stunts he would do while bouncing off the hallway walls. To be honest, I think my father had just as much fun with this as I did. He was a bike motorcycle fan.

Man, this was one of the greatest toys ever. The only problem was the cycle never went very far. It seemed the shag rug was not a very good surface, and the bike would always flip over on it's side after a few feet. The only toy even close to this was maybe smash up derby or earthquake tower.

I got the EK Stunt Cycle for Xmas the first year that it came out. Evel was at the height of his popularity, and he was a hero of mine. It was fun to play with inside and out. Inside, I would set it up in the hallway and let it rip. Outside, it would be fun to make it jump little hills and stuff. All in all, a rugged fun toy.

Evil was my ultimate childhood toy. Perfect for me....... indestructible!!! I loved to jump him. The speed, the balance, stability and what about those wheelies? A toy motorcycle that could do wheelies!!!!!! Like every other toy I owned Evil wasn't good enough for me "out of the box" After Evil was extremely well used I decided to make him a bit cooler and turned his bike into a chopper... Big mistake. All he did after that was wheelies. I think I cut the exhaust pipes back after that thinking Evil needed more hight during his wheelies cause thats all he did now. Second big mistake, he'd just wheelie right over. I saw new Evils for sale at a retro toy store in Toronto, but it looked smaller and cheaper than what I remembered, so I just live with the memories. The Evil Knievel Stunt Cycle, Best toy I ever owned "out of the box"
