I guess you have Christmas memories and then you have CHRISTMAS MEMORIES that won't go away! Every year I am reminded by my 31 yr old son of the Christmas I stretched HIS Stretch Armstrong until the arm broke. ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! Well I thought the crying would be over in a day or two but unfortunately it has lasted over 25 years. Will they PLEASE come out with another Stretch just like the old one. PLEASE!!!!!!

I never really wanted one of these but I remember the commercials it looked boring and just wasn't imaginative enough for me. My friend had one I remember it had a hole in it, I was suprised to see it had red sticky ooze inside. I didn't quite understand why that was necessary but it was an ok toy but there were too many cool toys back then to compete.

I loved my Stretch Armstrong toy as long as he didn't leak through the band aids provided to cover-up his puncture wounds. All in all, it was a fun toy with a lot of potential (you could use him for a paper weight too).

I got Stretch Armstrong for christmas when I was about nine. My older sister and a friend of hers thought it would be funny to see how far they could stretch him. He put up a good fight but I think it was about 15 to 20 feet when his arm split. I was so upset.

I got a Stretch Armstrong and my little brother got a Fetch Armstrong for christmas one year. My older brother pulled the arms, and it had a whole in it before i even had a chance to play with it. I remember being so mad because nothing happened to my little bro's fetch...that was until the neighbor left it outside in the sun for like three days...fetch didn't look too good after that

My husband recieved a stretch armstrong doll when he was a kid for christmas one year, and his brother and sister's were pulling on it until finally it broke apart and the jelly came out...all this happened before my husband got to play with it once. He's still talking about this story...He say's that year it was the only thing he wanted for christmas. Does anyone know were I can get a 1970's version of the stretch armstrong doll? Well, it appears that many of us found out what's inside of Stretch...but most of you seem to have used tools to do it. I brought him to bed with me at night, and was chewing on his arm...I woke up covered in Armstrong Jelly. The story still comes up around the tree every Christmas.

One memory I have of Stretch Armstrong is not particularly fond. Those of you who had one of these as a kid may remember how heavy they were. One morning while staying at my cousin's house, my evil older brother thought it would be funny to wake me up by dropping Mr. Armstrong on my face. He and my cousin found this delightfully humorous, but as you might guess- I did not.

I was very young and took Stretch to church with me one wintry Sunday but had to leave him in the car. Stretch and the cold never got along well so he ended up being completely frozen and very hard. I had to take him into the building after church and run warm water over him just to thaw him a bit. This was not the last time that Stretch met the cold, however. He never complained, though!

MY ONLY MEMORY OF STRECH WAS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST, I DECIDED TO SEE IF I COULD STICK A FORK ( FLAT END ) INTO HIM TO SEE IF IT WOULD STRECH HIS STOMACH...NOT THE EFFECT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I POKED A GASH IN HIM AND THAT SYRUP OR WHATEVER WAS INSIDE STARTING SEEPING OUT. I PUT A BANDAID ON HIM BUT IT WAS TOO LATE...STRECH HAD TO BE PUT TO REST. BATMAN, SUPERMAN, SPIDY, LUKE SKYWALKER, HULK, AND OTHERS ATTENDED HIS FUNERAL. HE HAD SO MUCH PROMISE...HE WAS THIRD IN COMMAND OF MY SUPER HERO LEGION.

Stretch Armstrong was a blast, and like so many other folks found out the hard way a real knuckle buster too (I think it was that deceptively soft squishy feel that caused the urge to try punching it -ouch!).

Anyhow, one of the big memories was the controversy going on around them. As a kid we were living in Chicago Heights ILL and the big controversy was how it would turn kids into some kind of masochists from "torturing" Stretch. My folks were actually worried for a while.

Mine too finaly came to a decomposition demise. I had stored him in his styrofoam sercauphagus, only to discover years later a pool of hard pinkish corn syrup (from what I remember that's what the goop really was) that had stuck his box to the floor. I kept his head though for a keepsake.

I THOUGHT STRETCH ARMSTRONG WAS VERY HANDSOME AND FUN TO PLAY WITH, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE, MY LITTLE SISTER POKED HIM TO SEE WHAT WAS INSIDE HIM, SO I HAD TO THROW HIM AWAY. I HAVE EVEN GIVEN A PICTURE OF MYSELF AND STRETCH TO A LADY THAT RUNS AN OLD TOY STORE, AND SHE HAS NOT FOUND ONE FOR ME YET. I AM 45 AND I WOULD STILL LIKE TO HAVE ANOTHER, I LIKE CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, I THINK IT WILL KEEP ME YOUNG.

I remember wanting to see if I could stretch Mr. Armstrong from our 2nd floor landing to the first floor. I ties his arms to the banister railing and hung on to his ankles as I walked down the stairs, I think I was small enough to hang by his ankles for awhile until his knotted arms gave way. I had an original 'Stretch' back in the day, and for some reason unbeknownst to me now, I decided to stick him in the freezer in the basement. Well, I forgot all about old Stretch until after about a week or two later, around the time my mother found him in a rather sorry state and really gave me hell for ruining my toy. Stretch's flesh had developed huge, gaping cracks (more like fissures) where magical and mysterious purple glop began to seep out. As the purple glop seeped out, it too froze, into giant sized purple polyps...sorry Stretch, I hardly knew yee...

How very cool to have found this site! I too played countless hours with my Armstrong, but alas he and Stretch Monster had one to many battles and I also buried Armstrong in a shoe box in my folks back yard in Michigan, no foolin'! I haven't seen a picture of him or the monster in about twenty eight years! By the way the parents put an in ground pool in some years after the burial and I remember wondering if he would be exhumed at that time. Very fun memories indeed :) Interested in Stretch Monster? I am the Stretch Man. Check out my website, http.//stretcharmstrongworld.com This was and is the ultimate collectors toy to get. Unlike most plastic toys that can stay pristine for ever, stretch armstrongs are basically food and parishable. This makes them very valuable because most got hard and dried up or were torn. When you find a good one thats soft and free of holes, ChaChing$$$$.I have figured out how to preserve them as well. I have a huge stretch collection, all soft. I have almost every stretch made, and believe me there were more than you think. Great toy I will keep on collecting and give to my kids. Oh yeah, I have no kids, guess I have to keep them all to mself, oh darn.

I had both Stretch Armstrong and the Sea Monster around 1977/78. I still remember sticking a toothpick in them to see what was inside. My little sister wanted one of these for christmas back in the 70s. My parents were too busy to do a lot of christmas shopping, so I was instructed to make the necessary phone calls to stores in the area to locate this hard-to-find toy. Somehow I got a wire crossed in my head, and I thought the toy was called "Stretch Cunningham". That was the name of a character on the then-popular TV show ALL IN THE FAMILY. I spent the whole day calling tons of stores asking if they had a Stretch Cunningham doll in stock. Some clerks laughed at me and I was baffled as to why. Unsurprisingly, no store reported any Stretch Cunningham dolls in stock.

That night I suddenly realized I had been asking for the toy by the wrong name. The next day I located a Stretch Armstrong and my sister enjoyed it very much that christmas. It lasted for years. The coolest thing to do was to sort of tie the doll in "knots" and place it back in the stryrofoam packing form. It would gradually straighten itself out and make the craziest squeaking noises.

The girl who lived behind me came over one day and asked to see my Stretch Armstrong. I reached into the back of my Big Wheel and gave it to her. 5 seconds later she kicked me with a pair of hard toe Buster Browns and took off down the street. I was very familiar with stretch Armstrong, we had one in the late 70's, but the memorie I hold the fondest, is in 1993, I purchased one for my son, age 2 then....he opened him for Christmas, my father in law and I started pulling him in two different directions by his arms and my 2 year old son screamed bloody murder, covered his eyes and ears at the same time and yelled, "DON'T DO DAT!" We really have laughed over that for years as he is soon to be 14 in January. I stumbled across this message board by searching for one for him again this Christmas. No such luck!

I remember clearly when I purchased Stretch Monster. It was fall 1977 in Fargo, North Dakota, at the famed West Acres Mall. I hadn't heard of the creature before, but somehow I was taken by the package, I guess. Just after I purchased it, I remember a kid coming up to me in the mall; he saw I was looking at the box. He seemed very excited, and I let him look at it. I hope he evenutally got his own. The thing I remember most about the monster was its smell. Kinda plasticy, rubbery, synthetic, yet oddly endearing. If I think about it I can still smell it today. That Christmas I received Stretch Armstrong, and I liked him, too, but he couldn't compete with Stretch Monster, especially that weirdly textured skin. If you can find it, look for the cool coloring book that featured both of them.

I grew up an only girl with four older brothers, the youngest being 11 years older than myself! When I was four or five years old, Santa brought me a Stretch Armstrong for Christmas. I remember not being strong enough to really stretch him, but I do remember my brother Brian and I poking him with a pair of scisscors until he bled that green stretch "ooze". Of course, the poking of Stretch was short lived, and he simply wasn't as much fun with no innards. However, the process of "milking" stretch of his ooze is one of my favorite early memories. We laughed for hours and had a ball.

Oh! My poor Stretch Armstrong!!! I think I was about 6 years old when I got that toy fro Christmas. I took him everywhere I went...even on vacation to Boston. That's when the unthinkable happened...my cousin took a knife to his arm and he began to bleed. I think he bled to death because he was never the same since. I cried and cried when my parents gave him a proper funeral :)

I just happened to find this site doing a search for Stretch Armstrong.

I worked for a company in the mid '70's that teamed with Kenner to product this doll. We made the bodies for them and they filled them and fitted the head. I still have one of the original production molds.

We worked with them to develop what became Monster Man, but someone else made it for them.

We also made the bodies for the Baby Alive doll and the roll up skin on the arm of the Six Million Dollar Man doll.

Those were the days...

I still have my Stretch X-ray. My Stretch Armstrong got pulled apart by my brother and uncle. I can still remember finding him with goo all over. That's been over 25 years. I had Stretch monster and on was stored under my X-ray. It got smashed and leaked. I kept the head. You got to love those old school toys. No one seems to know what the goo was. Wow, the Best toy I ever had.. I think about the fun times I had with that Stretch Monster. it doubled as a weapon, how cool is that? I had the Stretch Armstrong guy first he came to the inevitable fate of bleeding to death so I then moved on the the stretch Monster guy, boy I loved him so much. The monster guy and me would be together all the time. I wouldnt dare stretch him for I did not want him to die on me. I kept him in his box at night or he would sleep with me. Our relationship flourished as I would from time to time use him as weapon on my big brothers for I knew how to use his real powers of blunt trama. One day after school.. I came home to find a grusome sight.. my two older brothers were fixing to stretch the goo out of my monster guy, so the fight was on for stretch monsters life.. I cried bloody murder so my parents would intervene. With no such luck of the Gods, I was on my own to defend him and rescue him from the parrel that awaited him at which I was successful. I defended him for months after the original war with my brothers but ultimatley he did start bleeding and I had to give him up to the trash man. He was the best toy of my life.

I had A Stretch Armstrong, So did my friends Ravi and Jordan.

My Stretch Armstrong got stretched the length of the lounge and he still had the big cheesey grin. And then the arm came off and all the goo came out. (I also had Fetch and Vacman but Fetch suffered the same fate as his master except for the belly split open and all the goo came out and as for Vacman the pump snapped.)

Ravi was stretching his one in the garden but because the weather was hot, the goo dried up, he went brittle and snapped into pieces.

Jordan's Stretch Armstrong was stretched like my one except that both arms came off and goo leaked everywhere.

My Emma's (My girlfriend's) cousin had one too but they both stretched him together and he let go of him, hitting Emma on the head.

Yes, I also remember the Hulk stretch armstrong, and yes, I too remember the leak. The death star guy from Star Wars was killed to in that tragedy, as the sticky purple stuff inside the Hulk glued his head to the carpet and when I tried to pick up the action figure, his head broke off.

We only had a wood stove to heat the house when i had my stretch... so in the mornings i used to have to set in front of the fireplace to get his insides warm enough to liquify, if not he was as solid as a rock, and you could crack him...

I would run around in my backyard (I was like, 8 or 9?) holding one of his arms and make my dog take him for rides around and stuff. But yup! I got curious and chewed a freakin' hole in his arm. It was Christmas in Baltimore circa 1976. Sam requested for Christmas from Epstien's department store a "Stretch Armstrong Doll" He hoped for that HE-MAN golden figure to be under the Christmas tree that year. He went to sleep with thoughts of stretching his limbs to 4 times the size. He went to his bed chambers and laid his head down on his pillow in his parents funeral home on the 4 th floor of the estate and went into a deep slumber. He then was wakened by his brother Dom yelling out , "Santa came to our house Sam." He thought --- I hope he was not to rushed or scared to leave presents because he had to go through the embalming room to get our den were we had our Chritmas hearth.. Sam rushed down the strtaircase from the 4th floor to the den and entered the room. He was in his blue frog pajamas and a bit tired. He sat by the tree just staring not yet awake and there his sister Felicia said, "Sam this one is for you". Sam looked up at Felicia and smiled. His Mom and Dad look at Sam with a knowing look. He tore open the Santa paper and there was the box with Stretch Armstrong inside, complete with Stretch Armstrong Band-aids. How cool!! He and Dom pulled and pulled at it all night... He then klssed his Mom and Dad and 7 brothers and sisters goodnight..... Later the morning he came downstairs for breakfast. His mom had said that there was a death last night of your friend Danielle's Grandparent. Sam was said for his good friend. The funeral services were going to be downstairs the next morning... He stayed open those days because of all the snow outside. Danielle came to the funeral home and Sam;s Mom said go upstairs and have some biscotti Chritmas cookies and say hi to Sammy. She walked into the Den were the Chritmas Tree hearth stood adn saw Sam, Sam said,"Hi Danielle" Danielle Said, "Hi Sammy." Sam uttered,"Do you want to see what I got for Christmas,"(To cheer her up) "She said, "O,K" Sam pulled out his large golden toy, "Stretch Armstrong" While her family was mourning ther Granparent below they pulled at it and pulled at it for hours. Then all of a sudden Danielle pulled so hard that the pink goo started to ooze from his arm pit right above his heart.. Danielle began to cry. "I am sorry Sam I broke your srtetch armstrong". Sam said, That is OK I have a special band-aid for him... He patched him up and placed him back in his white stryrofoam box. Stretch no longer was able to live because of the wound he sustained. So Sam place him were he rested for a liftime in his comfortable casket box labeled Kenner.. To this day Sam and Dan are best friends

And if ya ever got mad you could clear a room by swinging him around. Our dog was scared to death of him.....she would go nuts when she saw him. In all he is the bases for alot of good ol childhood memories. I hope alot of others can recall some good time they had with good ol stretch...later all!!!!!!!!

Got an original Stretch Armstrong for Christmas one year. I totally loved that toy, and had it for two or three years after that. Finally, like it would seem everyone else on here did, I got curious. I took a sharpened pencil to Stretch's chest and slowly pushed it in until it punctured the skin. When he started to ooze red jelly muck I tried fix the damage I had done with a Band-Aid. It didn't help. Fearing that my grandparents would be angry with me for destroying Stretch, I buried him at the bottom of my toybox, and forgot about him. Several weeks later my grandmother followed a trail of ants from the door to the toybox. She dug down into the box to find my poor deflated Stretch totally covered in ants. Needless to say, she was slightly miffed.

I'll never forget Stretch.

Ahh, Stretch Armstrong - what a classic '70's toy. I remember a friend of mine owning one, but for some reason my parents decided to buy me a Stretch Hulk for Christmas 1979. I guessed, recently, that this could be quite a rare toy as I've not seen it listed on the internet or ebay etc... Does anyone out there have any info on this product?

Thanks

Someone mentioned an urban legend about the "goo" inside being poisonous. I believe it!! I got Stretch one year for my birthday. I never punctured him, but after playing with him for a while, I'd feel really sick. Soon even just being near that thing would make me sick. Finally my parents gave him away. To this day I've always wondered what that stuff was & if there was a potential law suit there!!

We all know that stretch armstrong rules the vintage toy kingdom.Afterall he started it all.As a kid I remember seeing that box wrapped under the christmas tree and I knew I got my wish.By far the #1 toy of my childhood. It sure felt a lot heavier back then.I would stretch the friigen hell out of it for about 5 days and out came the gooy mess.I would return it to the store and say it was defective and get a fresh one. After I did this several hundred times I guess I somehow lost interest in buying anymore.Man If I only new what these things would become to collectors now I would have had my mom buy out entire stores and store them in a controlled enviroment for 30 years and retire on my back like stretch himself. Now Im the biggest 38 year old Kid you ever saw.I have 4 stretch armstrongs, stretch monster, stretch x-Ray,both octopuses, stretch ninja,90s stretch armstrong, and the Holy Grail of stretches Himself,The hardest most immpossible stretch to obtain,One of only 1,259 ever made,The green, the bad ,the ugly. None other than THE DENYS FISHER STRETCH INCREDIBLE HULK. I as anyone of the other few people on this planet who are lucky enough cannot put into words how great it is to have him. These babys are fetching 5,000 to 10,000. Stretch armstrong is King

That was a pretty neat toy. Of course me being me I just HAD to know what's in it so one day I poked a friends Stretch with a pin and some kind of jell oozed out. Needless to say it became fun to make the stuff ooze out and pretty soon there was a huge mess so I put it under his bed and went home.. I'm sure he took the blame on that one but I never heard anymore about it so either it was no big deal or he was too traumatized to talk about it.....

It is funny how as a kid everything is so much more extreme, I found an old ad for the original stretch today. The first thing i noticed was it said he stretched up to 4 feet, by my memory it was more like 10 feet! I would love to have another, but I would love to keep the memories the same, looking at it now through adult eyes might kill the magic.

Long live stretch!!!!

I just remembered having this toy, and I went on Ebay to see if I could buy one. I had no idea how rare they are now... My brothers both had Stretch Armstrongs and I, being a girl, was given the lovely dog sidekick, Fetch. I loved that little bastard to death. I brought it with me wherever I went. My oldest brother's was the first Stretch to go, then my other brother's. Mine lasted the longest, because I was a girl I was less curious and a little weaker. One day, I went looking for my precious Fetch, but I never found him. To this day I still don't know what happened to the poor guy, but my best guess is that one of my brothers got the better of him. It'd be awesome to get another Fetch and relive the memories. Toys today just aren't the same.

I remember wanting a Stretch Monster for what seemed weeks before Christmas. Long time for an eight-year old......So Mom and Dad decided not to get me some queer toy like the Wheel of Fortune board game and got me Stretch Monster instead. I probably wet my pants that Christmas morning. When I unwrapped the heavy gift and saw his green mug looking back at me I think I cried too. I loved that ugly freak for months, but curiousity got the best of me. I bit one of his big toes to see what his secret of stretchiness was. Purplish sticky syrup came out. I was sooooooo disappointed that it wasn't some radioactive chemical X........ so I blamed Stretch Monster's death on my 4 year-old brother. He got grounded and I didn't get any more Stretch Monsters.

My brother and I both had Stretch Armstrong (yes, even girls liked them too). We had a huge hallway/foyer upstairs. After we had them for a long while, we of course were getting bored with him. We both got in the middle of the hall, each took an arm and proceeded to walk backward. My brother reached the window before I reached the wall and he told me to keep going. Sure enough, Old Stretch couldn't take and one of the arms busted right off. The stuff inside ours was green and gooey. That has always been one of my favorite memories.

I had a Stretch Monster toy from 78' til 85' or so....I never had a Stretch Armstrong and didn't even know he existed until I recieved my monster. I grew up under a rock in VERY rural WY. My Stretch Monster was the ONLY toy I kept in the original box. One day I discovered he had turned hard as a rock and wouldn't soften up even after several attempts in warm water. I discarded him without ever seeing the red ooze or beheading him for a keepsake. Oh well, maybe someday I'll find another but my prospects are looking dim according to collectors out there. If they do exist, how much will I have to give for one?
