I was the only kid that knew Gnip Gnop was really ping pong spelled backwards. I felt like the toy makers were trying to insult our intelligence by creating such a stupid game.

My dad used to yell at us for making so much racket with this annoying little game. I had a ball with it, but I think it's partially responsibe for my neurotic adult behavior. Still, fond memories.

I had gnip gnop as a boy and we played all the time until the constant pounding finally broke the thing. It was a great simple game...

The year.....I think was 1972....and all I wanted for Christmas was GnipGnop. I was 10 at the time and was doing a little 'snooping' in my parent's closet when I saw it. My heart raced- it was going to be mine!!!!!! Imagine my surprise Christmas morning when my little sister opened her new GnipGnop game!!!!!!! Needless to say, that was the last time I ever snooped for Christmas gifts!

What on earth? Gnip Gnop is Old School? We just got this game gnip gnop on December 25, 2006 for our daughter. It looks a lot different, bright colors. The original version you all are talking about looks a whole lot better. Anyways, this game is FUN!

I remember getting Gnip Gnop for Christmas one year back in the 1970s. The only detail that remains in my memory is my dad sweating buckets playing one of my many competitive brothers. This memory is especially sweet since my dad passed away this year. I have been remembering many funny things he did.

I Loved my Gnip Gnop soooo much... I played everyone I could..... Then one day I was playing my dad... I lost and started to cry... So to teach me a lesson about good sportsmanship.... he smashed the bubble chamber into pieces as I cried... So forever I am traumatized by my tragic loss of my beloved Gnip Gnop

My husband always comes up with some goofy nickname for me every day. Tonight it was "Gnip-Gnop". We both chuckled, and tried to remember exactly what the game was like as kids. We both remembered flipping balls from one side to another. My 13 and 10-year-old sons would have a blast with it today. Thanks for the memories of yesterday! Who remembers KaBongers? These were two acrylic marbles dangling from a string that you KaBonged together...till they started chipping and were pulled from the market for safety's sake :(

Christmas morning my parents realized their folly in buying us this toy. My Father worked very late shift hours in those days, and after the presents were all opened, they wanted to go back to bed for a few more hours. Little did they know the demon of pounding and mayhem they had unleashed. Our house was a chalet, with the living area upstairs, and the bedrooms downstairs, theirs being right under the living room floor. After the third time yelling up the stairs that we were hitting it hard enough to drive it through the floor, he gave up and went to go get a shower....

Memory: Circa 1975...God bless her, my grandma, "Nanny" would play with me with her one good hand (lost the use of the left hand from a stroke a decade earlier :( and her eye covered in cataracts.

When I was bored and had no neighborhood friends to play with, she'd always be willing to play! So for me Gnip Gnop reminds me of how wonderful she was, always there for me as much as she could physically be! I am sure there were times when she didn't really feel up to it but she'd never turn me down!

My brother and I got a Gnip Gnop at my father's company Christmas party. We enjoyed playing the game, but my mother absolutely hated the noise that it made. One day while we were not in the house she either threw the game away or turned it into a melting, burning puddle of plastic.

I can't believe I am even thinking aout this game at this time of night but I just can't help it. GNIP GNOP!!!!! Ahhh...Gnip Gnop..I remember playing this game (the original one) at my best friend/neighbor's house. We would play it for what seemed like hours..you would think it being such a simple game it would get boring..WRONG! Heart pounding, sweating, exciting...and I remember we would smash it with our fists really hard (our hands must have been a lot smaller then!) to the point that our fists would hurt! I see that they have re-issued it, though it looks a little bit different, I would like to get one but I think I will sniff around for an original one!

My daughter sent me an email that Gnip Gnop is back. I am thrilled. For the past, at least, 15 Christmases, I always brought up Gnip Gnop. I tell my children the story of how much fun we all had on a Christmas morning about 25 years ago. It was a game we all could play from the little ones to the teenagers. I seem to remember I sort of took over the game and made everyone play me. If I get a Gnip Gnop for Christmas I will play it with my grandchildren and I probably won't win. I know Santa will bring it, I've been good.

I still have flashbacks of the day the my three sisters and I were playing Gnip Gnop when the noise finally made my Mother snap and STOMP on the GNIP GNOP. I see from reading below that I am not the only person with this memory. Maybe we could start a support group. As for me, my healing will begin by sending a Gnip Gnop to my nephews who spend a lot of time at Grandma's House. ;-)

My husband and I were looking for gnip gnop for about three years. We go to a old toy store, three floors with the games and toys from when we were young that you can't find any where else.We asked every year and they told us that wasn't available any more.I took my sister-in-law down this year and was showing her some games and said gnip gnop and I was so excited she looked at me like I was crazy.I called my husband at work right there from the store and he asked me if I was going to buy it.I said "YES ARE YOU CRAZY?"

My sister and I had a gnip gnop as children and we loved it.But our Dad wasnt as wild over it ,the sound got on his nerves.Although we might have got on his nerves fighting over it. One day he must have had enough, and that was that. HE STOMPED THE GNIP GNOP!!! So "STOMP THE GNIP GNOP" has been a family joke ever since ,whenever Dad gets mad over something. So he is getting one for christmas this year as a gag gift.

Just looking at the picture brings a smile to my face. I'd gotten a Gnip Gnop (after much pleading & a few bewildered looks from my mother) for Christnmas as a child, and it was the delight of the whole neighborhood! My husband has a gnip gnop game he saved from his childhood. It is still in the box. He thought his kids someday might like to play or think it was as cool as he did. Now that he has two babies, he wants to through it out because it is dusty and old.. I told him to keep it, even though I doubt they will think it is "cool", they might like to play it just like their daddy did.

It is so funny to read about how this name comes up out of the subconscious. I was having dinner at Chinese restaurant with a friend a few years back and suddenly, utterly irrelevantly, I exclaimed "gnip gnop!" I had that term ringing in my head for days afterward. I guess we really are the tv generation. That night I called my brother, some friends of a like age, etc. to figure out what it might be , and then finally remembered, along with the retrospective insight into the name's etymology that some mentioned below. I seem to recall there was a little skill involved in hitting the buttons properly to get the gnip to gnop....

My first experience with Gnip Gnop was uanforgettable. We got one for a present for our kids on Christmas. The rest was a nightmare, my son and daughter fought all the time, they were both very competive and it got so be bad my husband broke it and threw it in the trash, finally peace and quiet. I now want to get one for my daughter who has 4 very competive sons, to show here what we meant. We still talk about those days.

I remember also playing this game outside! Our feverish smashing on the levers was too much for mom to stand inside! I have been looking for this to be reissued for my own kids! It looks like May 2005 may be the time, according to a website http://www.fundexgames.com/press/?id=33&year=2005

I hope it is true and that they don't fool around with it (like add lights or change the shape or something). So..a few more weeks and we all may be gnip gnop-ing again...without fear of playing with (or breaking) some vintage version.

I just remember the name of the game from when I was a kid, I couldn't recall the action until I saw the picture. It's a funny name, fun to say, fun to say to kids when you give them something. One night my daughter (age 7) was upset with me about something, I think it was about going to bed. She was in bed, brooding about having to be there. I walked past her door, stuck my head in and said "Gnip Gnop". She got a bit flustered and didn't know what to say and out came "Gnee". Now everynight has to end with the kids in bed and a "Gnip Gnop" goodnight. Gnee.

They asked what it was, and I said, well....I don't really remember anything but the name. So I said I would search for it. As soon as I saw the picture of it, I recalled hitting it hard, and playing it fast, and of course how my brother Mark had to WIN, he was always a sore loser. My son thought maybe it was a card game. I had to find this one on E-Bay and buy it for my wife because she loved it so much as a kid. It's fun and LOUD. Our kids like it now!

I used to KILL my hands slamming them down on this game! Mine was much bigger than in the above picture though, about twice as long and narrower too, I think.

My sister & I used to play Gnip Gnop at my Grandmother's house whenever we'd visit. Since the game always stayed at my Grandmother's place, Gnip Gnop was a special treat every time we'd come over.

my best friend and i used to beat the crap outta this game. surprisingly enough it never broke and we always had a blast. this game would have been easily beaten out by "Rock-m Sock-m Robots" if the heads didn't get so loose that they popped-up at the slightest twitch. definately one of THE cooler toys.

God, I loved Gnip Gnop! I can still hear that noise ringing in my ears. I'm sure my parents regretted buying us that one, but my brothers and I couldn't get enough of it.

Great game! Had it....it's Ping Pong spelled backwards. Remember Whizzers? I had the one that glowed in the dark. I hated when the stickers got all messed up when you played with it.

Go figure, I was out at dinner tonight with my family and I suddenly remembered Gnip Gnop. I was trying to remember what kind of game it was because I never had one. But we were cracking up just saying it over and over, and then it reminded us of Gary Gnu. (From the Great Space Coaster TV Show)

Anyway, I can still hear the voice over announcer on the commercial saying "Ga NIP, Ga NOP! It's Ga NIP Ga NOP!" "One player Ga NIPs, the other Ga NOPs..."

After dinner I went searching to find out just what the heck a Gnip Gnop is... as I typed in the words into the search engine, I thought, "Surely, this will never work. I don't even know how Gnip Gnop is spelled!"

Lucky for me Retro toys is here. Otherwise I would be going crazy trying to remember and even worse, bugging my same age friends to see if they remember it! Too funny!

The Greatest Head-to-Head toy ever made (prior, of course, to the advent of computer electronics). Great toy for two kids to while away some quality time
