I never liked this game, I thought the man looked too much like Moe from the three stooges. I did play it one vacation at a cousins house, and I had a steady hand, and I remember getting run off because I always won.
I never did grow up to be a surgeon, like my Aunt said. :^(

Wow, I love this site - forwarded it on to a bunch of friends. I'm 38 years old and my four year old son just loves this game that he found at Mom-mom's! Yes, my mother saved so many toys from our childhood years. Its just awesome that we have all of this stuff. Smurf colorforms, Barbie stuffs, Charlie's Angles dolls, stuffs, and the tree house! Sesame Street & Fisher Price peoples, houses, the town, school, tree house, vehicles, planes, accessaries - you name it, we have it! So cool!

this game scared the crap out of me with that loud-ass BUZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!! Very unnecessary. Still gathering dust in Mom's closet.

OH, I?m so glad to know I?m not the only one who was scared ?poopless? by this game!! Every time the buzzer went off I?d run and hide behind the chair. Finally, mom took the batteries out (wow, so much easier to play). I bought one this year for my nephew (Spiderman version) and the first question everyone asked me when he opened it was ?Are you going to run and hide when the buzzer goes off?? So glad to know I?m not alone anymore!!

I remember playing Operation for about a week until my 4 brothers lost all of the small pieces to it. Every once in a while I would run up on a piece of it and play with what pieces I had to play with. I loved this game! I hope to find another one now at a yard sale to get for my grandbabies to play. I am sure they will love it for about a week too!

I wanted but never had this game. I think I was about 13 or 14 when I decided to see if I could make one, so I took some cardboard and drew on a figure like the game, then cut out holes and wrapped the thing with foil, carefully making sure to have a metal edge on all the holes. Then I laid a paper cover over it with the same figure and lined up the holes. Attach a light bulb in the nose, body parts made of bakeable plastic clay, some wire, tweezers and batteries, and believe it or not, it worked. Kinda cheesy, but hey, it was fun. Still wish I'd had the real game.

This was one of my favorite toys of all time. I used pretend that I was the surgeon, and do the 'Operation'..oh when that sound went off I couldn't stand it. I wanted to be the best Dr.- but never could get it perfect from laughing.
what a great game.

This game scared the living soul out of me from when I was four to when I was fourteen. I love it to death.

There were 3 things I remember about this game from the 60's- that annoying buzzer, how frustrated I was at not being able to pick out a certain part because the opening was too narrow, and getting a shock one time. Still loved it and wish things were the way they used to be...

I had this game, and to be honest, back then, there was something disturbing about the game??? The pencil I could never get. Wish bone pretty easy. I think that the picture on the cover of the box was scary. I mean a wacky doctor stabbing you with a knife. And I was scared of doctors anyway, or those big hypodermic needles then. Remember those horrible small pox vaccs? Ouch! The man being operated on wasn't all that flattering either. Not to take away anything from the game, it's a classic, but just another retrospective on it. And yet I had the play doctors bag with stethoscope and reflex hammers. Remember those? Thanks for the memory!

I absolutely loved my Operation game. I think I've been interested in the human body and the medical field since I was a toddler. Now I'm 33 and a Registered Nurse, so the interest never left me.

Operation was one of my favorite games as a kid (next to Hungry Hungry Hippos). The pencil was my worst enemy. Like so many other people who have posted, that damned buzzer made me jump every time. That thing was loud. My son got the Shrek version for Christmas and I actually delayed putting in the batteries based on my memories of that buzzer. When I finally put the batteries in, I was extremely happy to find that they had toned the buzzer down. I would bet they had a lot of complaints from parents having to seek therapy for their buzzer-shocked children. But buzzer or no buzzer, I played with that thing for hours on end.

That game is priceless! We didn't have it, but our cousins did. It was near impossible to get out the rubber band (knee connected to the ankle?) and you'd scream like a girl when the buzzer sounded! Remember the dorky song from the commercial? What great memories!

"Take out wrenched ankle" so went the commercial. I agree that f-in buzzer would scare the piss out of ya. If you really screwed up, like when trying to remove that damned pencil, it would buzz for what seemed an etenity!

Yeah I don't think I ever got the pencil... that buzzing scared me to death when I was little too! I did end up losing some of the parts but that didn't stop me from playing!
Although those years are way behind me, I feel like I've lived through them. I know everything about them anyway... Child of the Sixties... that's what mother calls me!

My sister and I got Operation as a gift but I never really cared for it. All the kids in the neighborhood wanted to come over to my house becuase of this damn game. Imagine my dissapointment when my guest would break out Operation when they said they were coming over to play doctor. What a jip!

I *begged* for this game when I was about 4. When I finally got it for some holiday or birthday, the whole light-up nose thing was a bit too freaky for me, so I convinced my mother to take the light bulb out and cover the hole with a band-aid. I was utterly petrified of the sound the board made when you hit the edges, and would scream. Eventually my mother tired of my screams of terror (because I totally sucked at the game) and removed the batteries.

Here's a funny story: 3 years ago, my husband had major, emergency heart surgery for a dissecting aorta. Afterwards, when he was recovering (he's fine :-D), 2 different people gave him Operation games! They thought it was so funny. We had a good time trying to get those teeny-weeny pieces out without getting buzzed. What a strange game!

I **loved** this game. A friend owned it.
Whats strange is that I remember being very good at it, but my hand-eye coordination as a child sucked. I think maybe the difference was that this really required more fine-motor coordination then the sports where i could never make a bat meet a ball.

This was my favorite game as a youngster. I tried to play it recently with my 6 year old God Son and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown! LOL I seem to be much more shaky now than I was in the early 70's.

Operation was a cool game until the pieces got lost. All the pieces were easy to remove except fot the adams apple. At nine years old it was pretty entertaining.
