I GOT MY MANDY DOLL FROM SANTA WHEN I WAS 6, THEN THE NEXT YEAR SANTA THOUGHT HE WOULD BE NICE AND SEND ME JENNY. THAT YEAR,THAT I GOT JENNY MY MOM HAD TO WORK SOME MANY HOURS AT WORK BUT SHE CAME HOME EVERY NIGHT AND MADE ME THEIR OUTFITS(YEARS LATER I REALIZE THAT SHE MADE THEM AND NOT THEM ELVES) MY DAUGHTER IS 13 NOW AND SHE HAS THEM ALWAYS ON HER BED. THE DOLLS MADE ME THINK OF GOOD TIMES.

Remember the outfits you could buy and or make yourself with sewing kits for Mandy? Like the Tennis Outfit with visor, and the hooded cape? My mom made me the cape in 1977, but my favorite Mandy outfit was the Koolots (remember koolots??)with vest!

I had My Friend Jenny. She looked just like me and my sister as we are half filipino/half caucasian. She never had another outfit besides the yellow dress and hat, but we played with her alot. I washed her hair several times and I think it ruined it so eventually she had it cut a bit. When I had my daughter was old enough, I cleaned her up and gave Jenny to her. She is now 16 months and carries her everywhere, makes her dance, and can even call her by her name. Since my daughter looks like me, she looks like Jenny too. They dont make inexpensive wholesome dolls like this anymore, so she's a keeper. :)

My sister and I adored our Mandy and Jenny dolls and spent hours playing with them. My mother recently sent them, along with their wardrobe to my sister's two little girls in NJ and they now have a whole new life of adventure to look forward to. It is great to read everyones' stories - it brings back so many memories! Now I must go comment on the Sunshine Family as I almost had a coronary when I saw them listed! LOL! Thanks for the memories!

Mandy was my Christmas present when I was four years old--I will never forget opening my little red doll trunk and finding her and all of her outfits (tennis, rain slicker, camping outfit.) I treasured her and her little pink dress and hat, and still remember the vinyl smell of her head and shiny blond hair. My mother gave my Mandy away, and I've always wished I still had her to give to my three year old daughter. However, a search on the net brought me to the next best thing--Mandy, still in the box, with the same extra outfits that I had when I was little. This is probably the best Christmas present in a long time (since getting my original Mandy, of course!) and I can't wait to see her again and share her with my daughter!!

My sister and I are Hispanic, and I inherited the dark eyes, hair and skin that you commonly think of with "Hispanic." My sister though has blond hair and hazel eyes and is fair skinned. She had the Mandy, I had the Jenny. I remember, at the time, just being so in awe of Jenny's golden skin and darker blushed cheeks and lips. It was SO nice to have a doll that looked like me. I still have Jenny, her brown tights, ruffly dress, and gold straw hat. She is missing one shoe though!

I had Jenny and my sister had Mandy (that was her name also). It was probably my favorite doll of all of them (along with my faux-CPK). I had some of the FP clothes and some clothes my Grandma made. My mom collected dolls so she has them in her doll case and made sure we didn't throw out any outfits, etc. I had such fond memories of that doll that I want to try to find something similary for my neices, but not the American Girl dolls - way too expensive!

My sister and I both had My Friend dolls when we were little. I had Jenny because I had brown hair and Susie had Mandy because she was blond. We played with them for years and they were our favorite dolls. Our Mom made us all the outfits and when we were in HS and moving we put them together as a set with all the clothes and gave them to a needy family. But now, years later, I found a Mandy online and bought it to send to my new niece for her first christmas. She looks just like Susie, and just like Mandy! :)

I so Loved my Mandy Doll. My mom had found patterns for her clothing and even made an outfit or 2. I had many other dolls while growing up since I was the only girl with 3 brothers- but Mandy was my all time FAVORITE. I was also really into Barry Manilow at the time and would sing his song Mandy to myself & my doll all the time. I even remember wanting to name my daughter Mandy one day.

I always wanted a Mandy doll as a child - my friend Sarah had one and I played with her whenever I went over. I'm not sure why I never had one as a child.
Now I'm an adult and I combed ebay looking for one for my own daughter, but she didn't really play with it too much. Guess who loves her most?

My memory of Mandy is a rather sad one. I bought Mandy for my first daughter for her second Christmas in 1978. She loved her! Sadly just two weeks later my daughter passed away and I buried her with her Mandy doll. Obviously saddest day of my life. Years later, I went to a close out of a store and they had a Mandy doll. I bought her to keep for myself.

i had my friend jenny. and i had another my friend that i can't recall the name of. apparently she wasn't a very good friend. i loved jenny. we didn't have tons of money so i didn't get to have the pretty outfits you could buy. however my mom made jenny tons of rockin' cool clothes to wear. when i say rockin' cool, i'm talking about outfits that matched mine that were made of all the awesomest polyesters and hideous patterns of the day. i'd be willing to bet on my favorite flip flops and the trampoline my husband is going to buy me for christmas that my mom still has those dolls boxed up in her shed someplace. i need more friends like jenny

I had a "my friend Jenny" doll, because she was wholesome, cute, she had brown hair like mine, and we had the same name. I always wanted more clothes for her! I remember going to the store and looking at the ballerina outfit, that was the one I coveted the most. I remember I had a tennis outfit (no one in my family played tennis?) and a long sweater that had a tie at the waist. Like the sweaters that were in style say in the mid 80s and again in early 2000.

I have recently been getting into checking out antique stores. Guess What! I found a Mandy doll! I even think that it might be mine from childhood cause of the mark on the forehead. As soon as I saw her, my heart skipped and I got a big smile on my face! I bought her for $9.00, brought her home, cleaned her, washed her dress, did her hair. Geeze! I'm 37 years hold for gosh sake! I had so much fun with her when I was young. If anyone has clothes and shoes for her, I'd be most appreciative!

Mandy was the very best Christmas present I ever received. I was 4 years old when Mandy made her debut, and my mom remembers worrying that I wouldn't like her. She needn't have worried, as this doll went EVERYWHERE with me (including college!) and still has a special place in my room next to my husband's Curious George--received that very same Christmas! Mom made all sorts of clothes for Mandy--including a dress to match the bridesmaids at my wedding! My daughter is now 4 and I'm contemplating giving Mandy to her as her very own for Christmas. I'm not sure I'm ready to hand over this treaure just yet, though. I wish Fisher Price would bring out something similar!!!

I recently found my Jenny doll in my Dad's attic with all of her clothes. I cleaned her up, washed her hair and gave her to my little girl. My daugther is only 17 months but she said "baby" and shook Jenny's hand and then said "hi". I know she will love the doll as much as I did. My mother passed away 8 years ago and sharing this doll and the clothes my mother and I made for her with my daughter, has been a wonderful way for me to feel close to my mother again.

I have recently dug out My Friend Mandy complete with her wardrobe of 5 outfits from my trunk. I have been searching on the internet and when I saw the picture I couldn't believe it! That's her. She was my "good" doll when I was little and I only played with her properly.(no outdoor events for this one) I remember a lot of tea parties and dress up. Does anyone know what she's worth now?

Wow! Tears coming to my eyes! Isn't it amazing how a doll can carry you back in time... Growing up I was fortunate enough to have not only Mandy(who was a "Santa" gift), but also over the years to acquire Jenny (my favorite because she looked like me) and Becky! I, like many others who have posted had an extremely talented mother who would sew matching outfits for me and my "Friends." My best friend had a Mandy, but was never taught to care for such a treasure. Knowing this, my mother marked all shoes with my initials so that I would be held accountable for them and never be stuck with a chewed/torn-up set. Her doll is long since vanished and most likely forgotten. I, on the other hand, lost my mother to cancer at the age of 14, but still have those childhood friends in new-yet-played-with condition thanks to her loving/yet firm instructions on how to care for things that are special to me. At the age of 35 I have not been able to have a little girl of my own to pass this collection down to, but have no doubt that there will be "That Special Girl" who is in need at some time in my life with wich I can share and entrust these dolls with. I hope there are still many fond memories to be made!

My twin sister and I got Mandy and Jenny and my Mom made clothes for them. Our dolls had everything thanks to her. As teenagers, we gave them away to a needy family whose children promptly destroyed them. Looking back we regret giving them away. I am glad I kept my original Jenny and have now gotten a collection of EVERY outfit, pattern and accesory ever made for them. I am making clothes for my daughter (1.5) so she can have them when she is 5. I hope she loves hers as much as I love mine.

I still have my Mandy doll, thanks to my mom - who never throws anything away. Now my 2 year old daughter plays with her and just loves her. I am now looking for clothes for her, since her original ones are long gone. When I see my daughter play with her it makes me remember all the fun and love I had with her. What a wonderful thing to be able to pass on.

Mandy was by far my favorite doll growing up. When my daughter turned 18 months, I began to remember My Friend Mandy and thought about searching for her on E-bay. The very next week I found a forgotten little Mandy within a pile of Barbies at a rummage sale. She was naked, dirty, scraggly hair...but still smiling!
After hours of hair combing, two runs through the washing machine, and three bids on E-bay to retreive dres/shoes/tights...she sits in my daughters rooms pretty as ever. I love to watch my daughter carry arouns her newest "old" friend.

I was strolling through the Royal Oak Flea Market last Sunday with an old friend when out of the corner of my eye, I saw an even older friend. There on the next table was a Mandy doll-- my heart seemed to stop as I picked her up and the woman hawking her wares started her pitch about the doll. But I didn't need her to tell me that this was Mandy-- the beatific smile and the tiny pink rosebuds printed on her cloth body were all the proof I needed. For $5 I bought a lost piece of my childhood which I will pass on to my daughter when she turns five this spring. I can only hope that Mandy will bring her as much joy as she did me.

My Friend Mandy was one my best friends growing up. She was a constant friend in the sea of moving around as a military brat. My mother and grandmother are talented at sewing - for every outfit that they made for me, they made one for Mandy too! I still have Mandy and Jenny (who I got in 1981) and a few years ago added a Mikey doll that I found in the basement behind some furniture in an antique store (I couldn't bear to leave him there!) I still have a small 1930's suitcase filled with all the wonderful clothes that were made for them. Mandy, Jenny and Mikey now live in our very cheery guest room! These were some of the best dolls that Fisher Price ever made! My sister and I first had Fisher Price lapsitters Natalie and Jenny dolls - which were loved to shreds, repaired and repaired and we still have to this day. ...thanks Mandy for being such a great best friend!

I never really liked dolls, but Mandy was different. She was really my only doll, and I loved her. I thought she was beautiful because she had long blonde hair like me (I guess I was self-centered, which shouldn't be surprising for a 5 year old :) I thought the Barry Manilow song Mandy was about my doll and I felt very special because of that.
I hadn't seen Mandy for years and years, then one Christmas my mom dug her out and put her under the tree. I tell ya - I felt such love when I saw her and I still thought she was so pretty. Even though I'm 33, I still have her sitting in my room and cover her with a blanket at night so she won't get cold. And I swear up and down - I am not that wacky kind of permanently stuck at 12 years old woman that has stuffed animals and dolls all over my bed!

My friend Kelly left the previous message so I thought I would add a little more information. I loved my Mandy doll and played with her so much. When I got older she became lost after a storage shed was sold. Many years have gone by and while shopping in an antique store with my mom we found a Mandy doll. My mom quickly grabbed the doll from me and said I would get it this Christmas. Once Christmas came my mom gave me that doll and to my wonder it was "My" doll. My initials were still stitched in her dress and her nails were painted. My doll finally made it back to me. Amazing, I would have never imagined that could happen. Now that I am 31 years old, I have my Mandy doll back on the shelf.

My Family and I were just talking about our most memorable Christmas. Mine was the morning I entered the living room on my 7th Christmas morning and saw My Friend Mandy standing up in a red wagon. We were a poor family and I didn't fit in because I was an artist so my friends were trees and mud pies. Mandy was my sophisticated friend who liked me regardless of my social status and represented a better life. It was a sad day when our mobile home burned to the ground in 1980 on New Year's eve day and I lost everything including My Friend Mandy.

I was eight and my parents had just divorced. My dad got me the Jenny doll with the yellow dress. Everyone said the doll reminded them of me because my name is Jenny, and I have brown hair & eyes. She was my buddy throughout the entire situation. When I was nine, I lost My Friend Jenny during a move and I have never forgotten her ever since.

I adored my dolls. I had My Friend Mandy, the original 1977 version, and My Friend Jenny, the original 1979 version. Both dolls were my best friends. Because my mother sewed beautifully, she was able to make all the various clothes for them when McCall's came out with the My Friend patterns. Once a year, I went to Florida from Texas to Grandma's house on a plane. It was a 2 1/2 hr plane ride--to an 8-year old that's a LONG time! I always had Mandy or Jenny with me, and they were dressed up as I was, and they would of course have their own seat next to me (provided it was empty). I miss those dolls. They were a huge part of my identity when I was growing up. I hope that someday my own children will have some like them!

I LOVE My friend Mandy! I will never forget the day I was on the school bus and met a new girl. Her name was Mandy, too. We sat together on the bus many days after that talking about our matching dolls. My friend Mandy was a big part of my life! :)
My sister had My friend Jenny and her best friend to this day is another girl named Jenni.
Although My friend Mandy is missing all of her clothes now, and a finger, my own daughter who is 4 sleeps with My friend Mandy every night.

I had a My friend Mandy Doll. My Dad got her for me for my 7th birthday. I loved her so much, I took her everywhere! As the other My friend dolls came out one by one Dad got them all for me. When we lost our house and had to leave AZ. we each were allowed to take one bag, and one toy. the rest were supposed to go into storage. My dad came into the room and found me sitting on the bed, in tears. I had trown out all of my books and most of my clothes trying to fit the dolls into my bag. I could leave everything else behind, not those dolls. My dad ended up smuggling the dolls in his bag with some of my clothes, so that I could take them with me. When my mother found out a week later she was really mad. When Iwent into the hospital at 16 and was diagnoised with Muscular Distrophy, the dolls came with me. good times and bad were shared with those dolls. They survived eviction, a house fire, many many moves, the birth of my son, the loss of my daughter, the death of my father, and so many other things, with clothing hats tights and shoes intact. About 6 years ago my roommate threw them out. I could have killed her. I just recently started to try to replace them through *bay. When the first one arrived I sat and cried on her for more than an hour. She reminds me of how much my dad loved me. I am currently knitting her a sweater. Now I just need to find the origional outfit for her and all will be cool. thanks for letting me share.

I had both My Friend Mandy and My Friend Jenny, and they were my favorite dolls in the world! I was about 6 when I got Mandy and got Jenny for my birthday the next year. My mom sewed the cape that you could buy the pattern for. My favorite memory is that the year I got Mandy, we must've learned alot about Fire Prevention/Safety in school because I vividly remember making an "escape" plan as we learned in class in case there was a fire. I had a tote bag that I packed Mandy and Jenny in with all of their clothes and left it at the bottom of the stairway every night before I went to bed - just in case there was a fire I could grab Mandy and Jenny to save them! Sheesh, talk about a strange kid :)

I never had a My Friend doll, being 'too old' for them when they came out. However, I still watched cartoons (still do today !) and saw the ads. Such a pretty doll, I always smiled on seeing one at a toy store. But not something I could buy myself.
Today I found a lovely 1982 My Friend Mandy at a yard sale. Price : 25 cents. She's lacking clothes and shoes, but that can be fixed easily enough - I already make clothes for the 94 other dolls in my collection ! Goes to show you're never too old for the things that made you smile way back when.
Please excuse me, I'm off to my sewing machine ! Guess what I'm doing this weekend ? :)

I was randomly looking around at things on this site when I came upon the picture of Mandy! I had one when I was a very little girl, but the only strong memories I'd retained about the doll I had were that her name was Mandy and she had the cutest red dress shoes I'd ever seen. As soon as I saw that picture though, more specific memories started coming back to me. That's just bizarre. :)

My friend Mandy was a Christmas present from my mom when I was ten. The tradition in our family was at about that age we would receive a last doll - normally porcelain, you know the type that would sit on your bed as a decoration. My aunt had bought me my last doll the Christmas before. I saw the commercials on TV for My Friend Mandy, but knew I would not ever get her because I had already received my last doll. What a surprise on Christmas morning when I opened my "best" present ever. My mother was a key-punch operator for ADP and had saved a bunch of "bonus points" and bought me the doll and her whole layout of clothing. My parents divorced suddenly 6 months later, we were never allowed to go home to retrieve our belongings and My Friend Mandy has never seen me again. I often wonder what happened to her, and think of her often - even though it's been 25 years. I love this opportunity to cry over my lost toy, thanks for letting me share.

I loved my friend Mandy whom i got for a birthday present when I was 6 from my aunt. She made the cape from the pattern that came with the doll and a wraparound jumper. I also had new jenny (excercise) and the new mandy version (cheerleader) and my sister had old jenny and new becky. My other sister had the version of mandy in the blue dress and red hat. When my youngest sister was born i was 15 and learned how to sew and made outfits from the my friend doll pattern book from 1978 I think. She still has them although new mandy has a bob now! Im very nostaligic for mandy esp. when i see the fuzzy slippers from the bedtime outfit. We had all the clothes except for the warm up suit. I miss them!

I didnt have the happiest of childhoods, but the one thing I'll never forget was My Friend Mandy. She was a constant companion to me and indeed a wonderful friend. I still have her, in ok condition but without any of her original clothes and I hope to pass her on to my daughter when she is old enough to appreciate such a wonderful classic doll. I think I am going to start collecting Mandy clothes and accessories for later in her life so we can enjoy them together.

My mom tells me that she used to find me playing with Mandy, crying, saying how I wanted her to be a real little sister. She went with me everywhere! She got very dingy and her white and pink flowered body, turned grey. My mom washed her, but didn't read the tag that said NOT to put her in the drier. Her hair became Mandy-dredlocks. When I was in junior high, we took her to a doll hospital, and she was shaved and given a wig. Now Mandy happily sits upstairs with her curly, dark-brown pigtails! As I've gotten older, I've collected Mandy and her friends and have bought them whenever I find them at garage sales or antique stores. I have over 22 My Friend dolls. I have one room of my house devoted to my old toys and Mandy and her friends have all sorts of fun furniture. Whenever I feel down, I know I can go in that bedroom and spend time just sitting with my dolls and everything feels wonderful again. I love to share Mandy stories. Am I a geek for these dolls, or what?
