THEY WERE NOT MADE OF GLASS. NOT EVER. They were made of hard acrylic plastic, which sometimes LOOKED like glass. People keep saying "glass spheres" or "glass marbles", but NO ONE ever actually PRODUCES a glass set. Why? BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT MADE OF GLASS.

I had the prettiest pair of "KlickKlacks", bright HOT PINK!! My older brother had had enough of the noise the "klacking" made, that he threw them as high as he could up in our huge tree, and all I could ever do with them is gaze at them from afar!!

My brother had a Popper Knocker (Klacker). I can't tell you how many times we got hit in the head, but kept right on playing with them. My arms were covered with bruises. You know, I would never have let my kids play with such dangerous toys as the ones we played with.

My oldest sisters worked at a company that assembled the "safer" foam version of the clacker. What fun was that when you couldnt hear them make that loud noise! I remember my parents taking away the "dangerous" set and my sisters bringing home the lame foam ones...geez! Afterall I never lost a tooth or got a bruise from the glass ones!

I had 3 small children and did not work outside the home. Consequently, I had time to practice on their toy, Click Clacks. At Christmas time we went to a Sunday School party where the pastor was in attendance. They were passing around "Click Clacks" and I could do it better than anyone there. The pastor Said to me, "Say you are pretty good at those things." I replied, "My house looks like hell, but I can do "click clacks". Realizing what I had said and to whom I fled the room embarrassed to death. I am sure no one else remembers that but me.

Yep, we had the glass ones, though they didnt explode on us, probably because we were too busy rubbing our elbows , hands and heads after getting "clacked!" We then moved on to home made nunchucks and had the same effect...

I remember quite a few injuries from the toy, but oh how much fun it truly was when we got them suckers to go and go for minutes at a time. A small price to pay for a few little injuries. Today my god, they would never let our children have this toy. But the kids of today sure are not what we were all about back in the 60's. Maybe thats why we are the greatest.

My mom wouldn't let my brother and I have "Klickety Klack Balls" because they would "make us get big knuckles." I loved playing with them at a friend's house and still have a slight yearning for what I cannot have.

I just remember hurting A LOT! I hit everything with these things: my hands, my wrists, my face.... Yeah, great toy, people. Let's put some round nun-chuks in the hands of children. I loved them, but I think I blocked out the details of mine. Might have been orange or blue or red or..... just know they hurt when they hit you.

I had these things, too!Only in Quebec,we called them ka-bonkers.Mine were purple with cool metalic inside,my sisters were baby blue.I still remember getting that rythm going,tap-tap-tapping them ever so gently together and then all of a sudden ka-ka-ka-ka,loudly smacking them up and down until they would eventually miss each other and more often than not they'd spin around your hands and give you a good rap!

Can you believe this,we are the most English people around. We were brought up on clackers in the 1970's. We found our orange clacks and thought someone else would have fun via e-bay, but to no avail. Very pc correct! Unbelievable, but that is life. No other child will no get the pleasure of been clackered!

These were so cool! I remember people cracking these things until they broke, some got really good at it! I like the purple ones, again, I am really thankful for the time that I grew up, because some of the neatest toys were the norm then. Anyone know where I can find these items nowadays?

I actualy have about half a dozen pairs of similar ones left I don't know the manufacturer of them nor the origin. I knew them as "Click-Clacks". These are pink in color and have a washer for a "handle". They work great and look brand new. I play with a set once and a while. I have seen a site that sells the same pink ones for $60.00! I may be willing to part with some mine! Interested? Contact me at hellosdr@aol.com with a reasonable offer. Steve

I can remember getting a few pairs, and we called them Clackers, they were a blast to play with, it took about a wk. for the bruises to go away but that didn't stop me from playing with them. I don't have the old ones anymore, i cracked or broke them clacking so much. I have a cheap plastic pair (cracked). I would love to get another pair.

Everyone in my school had the Klackers (I think that's waht we called them) so i bugged my mom to get me one. I finally did get one, and it was light green clear, and really cool. Of course the day I brought mine to school, they had heard something about them shattering on the news, and saying that they were dangerous, so we were told not to bring them to school anymore. I hid mine in my mitten, and took it out on the playground. Some tattle take girl threatened to rat me out, so I never got to play with it on the playground, but I still played with it at home, and it never shattered.

I loved these and still do, so does my son. I have around 600 of these that I have no need for. I have several colors and variations of these. I remember these as a kid too, I don't remember getting any major injury from them. But I do remember the boys using them for bolas to hunt with. You can't sell them on ebay to whoever it was that said that. I had a yellow set on there and the bidding was up to $40 and they took it off because it was a recalled toy! Yeah in the 70s, I don't think anyone buying them now is buying them for their kids but for nostalgic purposes. Man I was p.oed.

I luv'd Klackers ... not only were they a fun way to get hurt.. we used to grab'em by one ball, spin um around as fast as we could and letum fly! Don't worry though as i never launched them at people or animals! Usually wrapped um around poles. I kept a pair of them into my 30's. ...(having forgotten I had them). But as one of the strings was badly frayed I never did play with them...(being alil wiser with age). Don't know what became of them, though I imagine I coulda got a cpl bucks for them on ebay! :(

Oh yea, I remember those things.. We also called them klackers.I lived at the time south of san francisco. It was 1972. I managed to shatter mine because we had older kids who could double klack and they would shatter-HARD!man!The reason why we did this is it made the coolest sound(a high vibratory squeeky glass ecko )8 klacks and its waisted! you had to squint your eyes when doing this stunt.I dont recomend doing this to your vintage set. I am amazed why no one was blinded by this toy. But they were sure fun.

I loved my klackers. I remember playing with them for hours while listening to 45's on my portable record player. Wish I still had a pair. My grandmother kept telling me to stop because my arm always managed to get black and blue but that didn't stop me. My friends and I would have contests to see who could keep them going the longest. Wow - just dug mine out - at the bottom of my hope chest which is filled with all my childhood "stuff." Mine are purple with air in them so they look like glitter. Yellow string. Purple o ring. Still work! All my friends mom's cut them up - remember my neighbor's mom put his "balls" cut off the string in their fish tank for decoration! This would have been @ 1972'ish. I was playing with my click clacks and while I was showing off my skills the ball hit the TV screen and cracked the glass......needless to say I got into a lot of trouble. That was the end of my click clack career. Besides, I was tired of getting hit on my arms and sporting the huge black and blue bruises. This website had me laughing and reminiscing about those days.

Klackers saved me from obscurity. When I was in fourth grade we moved from western Wisconsin to central Michigan over Christmas break. It is always hard to make a change like that, but even worse, we were "hayseeds" and now were in a setting where everyone's dad was a doctor or professor or something "big". We were getting the cold shoulder treatment. My birthday is in January and I got Klackers as one of the little extra gifts my Mom always included. My sister and I got really good at them over the weekend and I took them to school on Monday. The kids were fascinated! I remember everyone standing in line to take a turn and the teacher having to settle time disputes at recess! Yeah Klackers! That was 1980 and I was 10! Oh for the simple pleasures of the past - just let me keep the conveniences of today, too!

My klackers were a swirl of purple color through them with small ring on the end that you held meneuver them. I remember the buises on my arm from the balls hitting my arm when I messed up the trick I was attempting. I remember having contests with my sisters and brother to see who could keep them klacking the longest. My hope was to set a record for longest klacker klacking. haha. too fun!

I loved my Klick Klacks ! I just got the email that's going around about memories if you were a little girl in the 70's and that's me. Mine were purple (of course because I had a purple bedroom with a purple rug, purple bedspread, purple curtains, purple lamp, purple clothes.) Here's some of those memories: "You had that Fisher Price Doctor 's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked. You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels. You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!) You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days. You owned a "Slip-n-Slide",on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once. You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once."

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill". People sometimes thought you were a boy.

I think we had 2 brands of these when I was a kid in Minnesota, Clicker Clackers and Popper Knockers, and I remember breaking every set I bought. I tried to tempt my sister into putting her hand in the way, but she never went for it. Our school's vice principal had several sets! They were loud, fun and had danger written all over them. I just saw Gwyneth Paltrow play with them in the movie "The Pallbearer". Aahh memories.

This was a great toy, it doubled well as numb chucks. I still have the pair I had as an 8 year old hanging from the telephone wires behind my friend's house who lived next door. My sisters pair ended up going through her bedroom window when I chucked them across the front yard. I think my dad threw them away after that. They were great to play with but tough to control when you were throwing them. But then again, they probably weren't designed for that.

We started out using them like they were intended but us boys in the neighborhood decided that they make better bolos for throwing at things instead of just klacking up and down. I had a red set on a yellow string and the balls had lots of little bubbles in them. To make a good bolo you had to add one more ball from another set.
