I wanted to ask Michael George if he remembered one of the kids that was picked up named TOM BOX, from San Marino? I understand that
he also was one that tried or was in a commercial for the Wiennie. I was his friend back in San Marino at that time.

I am the kid in the TV commercial featuring the Water Wiennie and Magic Bubbles. One of the producers came to our neighborhood and picked up about ten of us kids, drove us to Griffith Park in LA and spent the day shooting the ad.
I've been looking for the ad to show my family, if anyone has a link please let me know.

Hmmm ... the fine folks at Water Country USA (Williamsburg, VA) seem to have to "adopted" the brilliance that is the Water Weenie and sell a similar product ... a tube that one fills with water under pressure at various locations throughout the park ... which I found myself purchasing for my two boys this past summer only to be an eventual target. I can't believe I didn't recognize it from my 70's childhood!

Here's my crazy story and memory about the Water Weenie!
I produced a radio jingle and radio commercial for the Water Weenie 35 years ago! The jingle included the line "Good Clean Fun" if you can imagine that.
Both the commercial and the jingle were pretty silly and pretty cheesy but, hell, it was 35 years ago. I remember how weird it was trying to come up with a "good clean commercial" for this phallic toy!
I really haven't thought about the jingle, commercial or toy for decades, but recently I was interviewed about my new company--and career history--at the Blogworld Expo in Las Vegas and the subject of jingles came up. For whatever reason, the old Water Weenie jingle came to mind and we started talking about it. Needless to say, the interview went into a whole other direction for the next few minutes!
You can find the interview on my website and blog at www.newmediacreative.com

As a child I had a blast with these. At the boardwalk in New Jersey we used to take these play money $20 bills that looked real but only when folded and from under the boardwalk we would slip the $20 up through the crack and aim the Water Weenie up at the same spot. When someone bent down to pick up the bill we would let them have it. It was all in good fun but I do remember someone getting angry from time to time.

My mother bought me a water weenie. As she dropped me off at home she gave me specific instructions to turn off the roast in the oven BEFORE I began playing with my new water weenie. She had more errands to run and would be home later.
I ran through the house, through the kitchen, past the stove, and out the back door to play with my water weenie. I completely forgot about turning off the oven.
I loaded my water weenie and shot every cat in the back yard... sprayed it everywhere. Wow... what a neat toy... it sprayed a long way. About the 30th time I filled it up I noticed someone standing on the back porch... my mother fuming she said... "Well... you were so consumed with your WATER WEENIE that you forgot to turn off the stove. Now the roast is burned! We have NO supper! Your dad has NO supper! I guess YOU are really proud of your new WATER WEENIE now huh?!!
Well... needless to say... I was grounded from playing with my new water weenie for a while. The fun was never quite the same for me with the water weenie after that.

These were great fun to launch into the air. They would really take off and go so high I would lose sight of them. I lost many of them that way. I wish Wham-o would bring them back, but somebody probably put an eye out or something!

I loved this toy! Well, most of the time. I will tell you all about the one time I did not enjoy it. We had company over and all the cousins were playing out front. My Dad had told me before not to knock the paint off the basketball back board. Well I was doing that exact thing in the backyard....with my water wienie. I had just filled up my third or fourth wienie full when my dad....who had been watching me through the back door came out like lightning and swiped it from me, pointed it at the back of my head and unleashed a very wet and painful jet of water all over my skull. Then when it was empty he slapped the hell outta me with it on my head and kicked my as* into my room.....otherwise it was a real blast to play with! HA HA HA This is a true story!

I CANT BELEIVE THIS WEBSITE EXISTS!! ME AND SOME OF MY FELLOW WORKERS OFTEN PASS THE TIME TALKING ABOUT OLD TOYS AND GAMES WE HAD AS KIDS. NONE OF THEM REMEMBER THE WATER WEINIE BUT I DEFINATLY DO. THEY WERE SO HARD TO FILL UP AND EVEN HARDER FOR A YOUNG KID TO HOLD SHUT UNTIL THEY WERE READY TO RELEASE THE WATER..I'VE SEEN ALOT OF TOYS ON THIS SITE THAT I HAD AND LOVED AS A KID AND I THINK SOME OF THESE COMPANYS COULD MAKE ALOT OF MONEY IF THEY WOULD START MAKING THEM AGAIN!!!!!!

1975.. never heard of the commercial version. A neighbor showed my brother and I how to make them.. rubber surgical tubing from the drugstore, tie off one end, on the other end jam in a bic pen body, find one that fits tight. Now wrap tape around the end of the pen until the blob of tape is big enough to jam into an outdoor water faucet.. we had a competition running as to who could make the longest one (that didnt pop while filling!)

There was definitely a TV ad for this one- kids playing outside, an excited male voiceover. Had to have one- got it!- but it had the predictably short play life you'd expect of a heavy-guage water balloon. It had about a 5-8m range, maybe, but plenty of dowsing soak if you crept up from behind. ;)

WE DIDN'T HAVE ALOT OF MONEY WHEN I WAS GROWING UP SO I HAD THE BAD LIQUOR STORE KNOCK OFF VERSION OF THIS.
DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

Have you ever put jell-o in these bad boys?! It's like a flaccid pumper. You can pretend your G.I. Joe and if you had a girlfriend, she'd be Barbie or whatever. I would chase her around the whole school saying, "I'm going to stick this right in your arse, honey!" Everyone thought I had gone a little aloofy like Goofy, but I was pretending to be G.I. Joe, remember?

this toy was a lot of fun. It could travel quite high, and it's trajectory was totally unpredictable. Even adults had fun with it.

No kidding about being hard to fill. I don't think I ever could handle the Water Wienie. I really liked saying the name.

Oh gosh - we loved that thing. We used to use it to squirt passing cars (naughty!) until one day it burst and that was that.
