Krazy Kar

This memory was added on: December 26,2005

Surfing the web for all things retro and came across this page. I remember many of these great playthings from years past, but had forgotten about this one. This instantly brought back happy memories of going backwards off the neighbors' porch in their Krazy Kar. This was an old house with a high porch with no railings around it. No harm done to me or the Krazy Kar, but I was a lot more cautious on future rides.

I can't belive it! Just tonight I was talking baout my favorite toy as a child. I am now 43 years old and out of curiosity I typ-ed in "Krazy Kar" I screamed when I saw it and my youngest child came running over and I said "look that was mommy's favorite toy when I was a little girl". Only back then I think the weight capacity for it was greater because I used it through out all my years of being a kid and went through 3 of them. I found one site and it had a picture on it and I emailed them before I saw this site and I described the original colors and red and white stripes on the wheels to them. Then I clicked on this site and "bam" there it was just the way I remembered it.

Seeing this picture of Krazy Kar is making me crack up laughing! I remember being little and asking Santa for it! (young enough to not know santa didn't exist mind you!) I love this thing, it was wacky and crazy and far more fun than my neighbors Big Wheel (which we would take turns back and forth). I had this thing for years until a teenage neighbor wanted to ride it and it broke under her weight because technically she was just to big for it...that was a sad day :(

I was the only one of my friends that had a "krazy kar". But we shared it alot. We would go to the church parking lot next door, and ride around. You had to figure out how to work your arms to make the "kar" go forward, backward, and round and round. It was a blast. I have found a site that make these type things for older children, My child is 9 and I want her to have one. It was such fun!!!

This was just the best toy ever!!! My daughters loved it so much (so did all the other kids that came to our house) and still talk about it when they reminisce. They also talk about the kid that was too big and broke it down! But, I can't blame him, even I would have like to have had a ride!!! Now that my oldest has a little boy with another on the way, I'd like to find one for them to enjoy too!!

My little sister received a Krazy Kar for Christmas about 35 years ago. I, being the BIG brother decided to take it for a ride and broke it. (175 lbs.) After years of her not allowing me to forget about it, I can now replace it for her. (Even if she has to watch her daughter ride in it).

I never had a Krazy Kar, but my neighbor Shannon had one, and I absolutely loved it!! I told my husband we have to get one for our daughter. My son is 12, so he's going to be upset if he's too big to ride. I would spend hours upon hours on that thing!

My Krazy Kar was one of my favorite toys. I've never found anyone else in my area that had one or even remembered it. It was so much fun!!! I have been trying to find one for my daughter so she can experience the fun. (I just hope she doesn't put me on crutches with it like I did my Mother... Oops!)

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS EVER!!!!

No one remembers it, but now I know I'm not Krazy!

Did the one from the 70s have pedals too? I do remember having to turn those wheels w/ the handles on the inside.

I loved to fly and spin down the sidewalk -- back in the day before helmets were required gear for everything.

Thanks for the memories!

My Brother and i would ride Krazy Kar for hours in our garage. We both had one and we would play bumper cars with them. It was one of my favorite toys and now that my brother is no longer with us it has even more greatness in my childhood memories. Im hopeing to buy one of the reproduction models for my daughter, so that she can have a blast like all of us did.

Thanks for this site. I really enjoyed reading everyones comments. This toy was definitely a solid memory from my childhood as well. I drove that Krazy Kar until the wheels wore out and cracked. It was definitely a pisser to spin that thing and ride it all over the place. Kids today dont know what they missed out on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a Krazy Kar, used from about ages 6-7 (roughly)…and I think it was the most fun thing I ever owned. The way you could spin, pivot, swerve, accelerate, crash into the garage door...it was like having your own amusement park ride you could use all the time. I used it quite a lot...I recall the wheels were developing cracks/splits on the seams at the end of its "life". I've sometimes wondered why no one (seemingly) has developed an adult version…obviously proportionately larger, probably with a metal frame and components. Maybe it would just seem uncomfortably close to being a sport wheelchair....but then again, wouldn't a sport wheelchair with that design be the ideal?

Me and my brother had the yellow one with the red wheels when we were kids! They were AWESOME! We would play demolition derby on our car port. We also would spin around until we were dizzy, and then try to get up and walk! So funny! My aunt Paige came to visit us, and she even would ride it! This was one of my most favorite toys I had!

This is what we rode as kids before Big-Wheels came out. they were fun but you had to turn the 2 handles at the same rpms or you would go no-where, was fu to do the circle thing though. rode mine till the wheels wore out, then threw it in a creek in the woods, it's still there 1/2 in the mud

I used to ride my Krazy Kar for hours on the back porch. I would see how fast I could go in a circle, then lock up the wheels to see how far I could skid. A strong wind blew it away one day, and we never found it. I've missed it ever since, but I've found some manufacturers making some metal ones with a 130 lb limit...and I'm 122 lbs. WOOHOO!!! I send hours riding around on this thing! It was like a low-rider chariot the you could use to smash into things without hurting yourself.

You really used your arms spinning the wheels for hours and hours. I literally wore this out. I am glad others enjoyed it as much as I did.

Man, I could even win races UPHILL.....Now that I have a kid I've been looking to find another one. Am SO happy to find they are still being made...although I dug the yellow body and red wheels with the spiral much better.

Whiz Wheels..... HAHAHAH, too funny. I too spent years trying to remember the name of this contraption. I read all the previous comments, and I can't believe NOBODY used to play demolition derby with one of these things. My older brother alway chose the big wheel and I always chose this thing. It was like having an armored Roman Chariot. His Big Wheel would always bounce off the rim of the car and the giant wheels protected you even more if you turned at the last second.... violence is fun!

Oh man, I LOVED my Krazy Kar!! My friend next door had one too, and we'd play "Bumper Kars", and spin around and around until we were dizzy! Mine was just like the one at the top of this page, but Susan's had a red body with blue and white wheels (anybody else have one like this?) I alwas thought those colors were prettier. KK lasted a lonnnng time until the wheels finally split.

There's a revival of sorts of KK. Power Wheels has reissued it under the name Whiz Wheels. Unfortunately, it's battery-operated as most riding toys are these days. Heaven forbid the kids actually have to WORK to make the car move! And some wonder why so many kids are overweight.

Many of my friends had little pedal cars they could sit in and go. I couldn't do that because my legs are paralyzed. It was wonderful when my parents gave me a Krazy Kar. I could go just like my friends and the Krazy Kar could spin which was something their little cars couldn't do.

I loved my Krazy Kar. I used to make roads in chalk in our basement and drive it around. When my cousin would come over I would give her a ride and get her sick from spinning around in a circle it was great. I still have my Krazy Kar. My 6 year old son now enjoys it. Once he is too old maybe I'll sell it. Anyone interested?

Oh now I know the name of this toy. We had a few at my residential school in Nashville Tn. I used to spin around and around in that thing. It was fun. I never had one with the 2 big wheels, but in the early seventy's, I had something that ran on that general principal. It was shaped like a car and you used your hands just like the Krazy Car. As I said, it did not have the big wheels, so I imagined it ran on pistons not unlike a train. Was this an off shoot of the krazy car?

I got one of these for Christmas when I was 5. I recall the first one was broken when it was taken out of the box. It was returned for another one the next day and this one was enjoyed for several years. I remember spending many hours in my basement with my Krazy Kar, especially during the hot summer months. You were able to turn 360's by turning the wheels in opposite directions. My Krazy Kar met its demise when my 15 year old cousin sat in it and broke it.

I am so SHOCKED, to see this really existed... I knew it did.. But, it's been 31 years since I've seen one. I have been trying to remember the name of this toy since 1972. My older friend (born in '64) had one, and I remember seeing it in her driveway when we went to visit her ). , and being around 4 I didn't know how to make this thing go. Plus I was really scared to try to use this wheel chair kind of thing. Big Wheels were very big for kids my age, so I had a Big Wheel. so I missed out on Krazy Kar (I can't believe that's the name of it).. I had no idea.. I just remember watching my friend use it and seeing the thing spin out of control. hahahahah

Oh my god, I love this site. This is a toy I remember. I guess since this is a toy from the 70's I must have gotten it second hand as a small child. i guess I got it around 1979 or 80. I loved this toy. I think it was the first toy I really have a fond memory of. I remember just going as fast as I can and spinning the wheels opposite of each other and making a very fast 180 degree spin and since you were so close to the ground you would not tip over. I loved this car! Our neighbors had one and I would always try to sneak on it to ride (I was too old and a little over the weight restriction).

I had been asking about its name a few years ago and then lo and behold, I saw it for sale at a Toys R Us store. Luckily my kids were at the perfect age and I bought it for one of their birthdays. They're a little older now and only my 9 year old can ride it, but I still have vivid memories of how cool it was!

My next door neighbor had one of these.

I dunno how fast it really went but between the close-to-the-ground sitting position and the big wheels to crank it sure FELT like 60mph!

But the best was cranking the wheels in opposite directions, you could spin REALLY fast and make yourself REALLY sick!!!

Krazy Kar was the coolist. When I was a kid my family lived an a farm in the Texas panhandle. We had a huge barn with a paved floor I would ride Krazy Kar in the barn for hours. I wish someone would develop one for adults. Imagine the upper body workout one would get with a Krazy Kar.

This toy was a blast! You could get rocking in this thing. I used to get going as fast as I could then lock up the wheels and spun out doing a 180. I did this so much I wore away when the plastic met the pavement and they threw it away. You could get dizzy doing figure eights etc.
